Anchor: Moving onto Taiwan, where pro-independence protesters sit in front of Taiwan’s legislature to protest a visiting Chinese Communist Party official. He’s in Taiwan to discuss details of improved cross-strait economic ties.

STORY: Taiwan’s main opposition party, concerned that Taiwan is getting too close to China, kicked off a three-day protest sit-in today. That’s after more than 3,000 people sat in front of Taiwan’s legislature on Monday evening protesting the arrival of China’s top negotiator for cross-strait relations.
新聞內容:台灣最大的反對黨,擔心台灣與中國走的愈來愈靠近,因此在今天開始了為期三天的靜坐抗議活動。這是繼星期一晚上、超過三千位民眾在台灣立法院前靜坐抗議中方高層代表來台協商跨海關係之後的活動。

With heightened security in the city during the Chinese official’s visit, protesters express concern their freedoms would be curtailed in favor of improved Taiwan-China relations.

Now they open up for Chinese credentials and Chinese investment while the two countries are still hostile, more than a thousand missiles are still aimed at us, how can we trust the government?”

Chen Yunlin, the top Chinese negotiator who began China’s first high-level visit to political rival Taiwan in 60 years will pursue agreements on direct flights, food safety and the economy despite protests against warming ties. Chen is the highest-level Chinese official to set foot on the island since the end of the Chinese civil war in 1949.

Working groups from China and Taiwan tentatively agreed on Monday to sign agreements that would allow 108 direct flights per week between the two countries.

Also on the table for Tuesday are new postal links and a process for quick notification and investigation of any contaminated food following Taiwan’s concern over tainted dairy products from China.
