如何閱讀英語新聞的標題（三）

在英文報紙上，當你看到的不定詞to+V，如果是在主詞之後，是代表未來式，省略be+going。

舉例：President Chen to march tomorrow

陳水扁總統明天將遊行

President Chen is going to march tomorrow

舉例：DPP to hold mass rally against anti-session law on March 26

民進黨將於三月廿六日舉行反反分裂法的大型集會

DPP is going to hold mass rally against anti-session law on March 26.

舉例：After 34 years, wedding bells to ring for Charles and Camilla

34年後，查理士與卡蜜拉的婚禮鐘聲將響起。

After 34 years, wedding bells are going to ring for Charles and Camilla.

另外新聞英語中的標點符號，也是有學問的。因為連接詞and也往往省略了，所以當你看到逗號「,」時，其實是代表「, and…..」

舉例：Dignitaries from over 80 countries, millions of pilgrims gather for funeral of John Paul II

應該是

Dignitaries from over 80 countries, and millions of pilgrims gather for funeral of John Paul II

來自八十餘國的顯要人士，與數百萬的朝聖者，為了約翰保祿二世的葬禮聚集在一塊。

舉例：Villagers Riot in China, 50 Police Injured

在中國村民暴動，五十名警員受傷

Villagers Riot in China, and 50 Police were Injured

舉例：Severed Penis Retrieved from Toilet, Reattached

這是則趣聞，看得懂什麼意思嗎？

Severed Penis was retrieved from Toilet, and reattached.

這是一位44歲阿拉斯加安克拉治的男士，他的陰莖被憤怒的女友給切了下來，並且丟入馬桶沖走，但後來警方找來水肥公司，從馬桶裡找回了他的命根子，而且還成功地接了回去！
