如何閱讀英語新聞的標題（二）

在新聞標題中，經常用現在式來描述新聞事件，英文報紙是報導昨天發生了什麼事情，照時態來看，應該用過去式才對，但新聞主編為了讓這則新聞看起來像是正在發生的，是一條新鮮的新聞，而不是過去的舊聞，所以在標題上就使用現在式來描述新聞事件。但內文就回復到正常的過去式了。

舉例：Mother and Daughter Poison Themselves in Tiananmen Square

母親與她的女兒在天安門廣場服毒自殺

Poison當動詞，原本是已發生的事情，過去了，但標題中仍使用現在式。

舉例：“Statements of Resignation from the CCP” Attract Citizens in Jilin

退黨聲明吸引了吉林市民。Attract用現在式。

再者，標題中的冠詞，如a, an, the，也都省略了。

舉例：Sixth grader arrested for child prostitution

一位六年級女生因兒童賣淫被逮捕

A sixth grader was arrested for child prostitution.

舉例：President Chen says democracy only way to maintain economic ties

陳水扁總統說，民主是唯一維持經濟關係的唯一方法

President Chen says democracy is the only way to maintain economic ties.
