The convoy was heading in the direction of Xiahe village, home to the famous Labrang Tibetan Buddhist Monastery.

Chinese security forces have blocked both foreigners and news reporters from entering sensitive areas of Southwest China. That's because there are some reports of protests in those areas.

The BBC reported that one of their teams snuck through police checkpoints near Hezuo City. They found the streets deserted, shops closed, and police vehicles patrolling the streets.
