following= after= in the wake of。新闻英语句子之所以变得很长，多数都是名词的修饰所造成的。像这句简化起来就是Following the rally, the group marched through Chinatown behind the banner.
大家要有个概念，句子中任何名词都可作后位修饰，不仅是主词和受词。像这句的后位修饰都是用在介系词片语中的名词，the rally与the banner. 前面用了形容词子句，后面就用分词片语。因为分词片语其实就是容词子句省略掉关系代名词+ be动词所形成的。
