In an overcrowded maximum security prison in Southern Alabama, a group of
inmates takes part in a meditation program.

The documentary "The Dhamma Brothers" follows the inmates, the teachers and the prison staff through the 10-day meditation course.

Jenny Phillips, director and psychotherapist involved with the program, talks about her experience.

"We all have such similarities, even human beings behind bars are just human beings, I've found. It surprised me. I thought they were going to be
monsters."

The meditation course offered to inmates was a ten day intensive, silent program that forced participants to live by a highly structured schedule and meditate silently for ten hours a day. The type of meditation, called Vipassana, is an ancient discipline from India and taught as a form of rigorous self-observation, leading to mental and emotional freedom.
該課程提供受刑人10 天密集的靜心冥想，參加者必須按照高度結構化的課程表來過生活，並且每天靜心沉思10 個小時。這種冥想叫作內觀(Vipassana)，是來自印度的一種古老訓練，並且教導人們嚴格自我觀察的形式，走向心理與情緒自由。

The film follows the inmates as they live in prison after completing the meditation course. Many continue to meditate and appear to have modified their behavior.

The documentary has been shown at several film festivals in the United States.
